Highway Engineer Job Description (sample): The Highway Engineer serves as staff specialist with the
principal duties of promoting and implementing advanced traffic
operations concepts and ITS technology and procedures, both
internally, among Division personnel and externally through active
communication liaison with counterpart personnel at the Department
of Transportation (FDOT); other Federal, State, and local officials;
university staff; industry; and the private sector. Also serves as
the Traffic Operations Engineer with the principal duties of
performing traffic operational analysis of interchange
justifications/modifications including intersections using
traditional traffic analysis or using traffic simulation models and
assisting the Division Transportation Engineers in addressing
technically complex or controversial issues on project-specific
applications related to advanced traffic management, ITS operations,
or traffic operations. The ideal candidate for this position will be
an experienced mid-career engineer with traffic management and
intelligent transportation systems experience who is a team player.
